When ordinary people rise to a status of superstardom it is usually due to two factors. Firstly a performer’s natural gift and talent and secondly what the industry calls an artist’s ‘lucky break’. Every aspiring musician dreams about the day when their lucky break will come. Unfortunately, many of these artists will never see that day. Maybe because they didn’t want it enough, maybe they didn’t work hard enough or maybe they weren’t talented enough. Mainly, though, it is a mixture of all of these reasons.

In 1993, Victoria Adams (later becoming Beckham following her marriage to famous soccer player David Beckham) saw an ad in the paper. The ad had been placed by a man named Bob Herbert, who was auditioning hundreds of girls for an all girl pop group. Victoria, already in a group called ‘Persuasion’ went and auditioned. With talent and luck on her side she made it to the finals and then was chosen for the group. Herbert gave the group the name The Spice Girls.

Victoria and the Spice Girls had a string of hit singles, touring the world countless times. The Spice Girls’ music was popular, energetic and fun. Victoria now had a real chance to show off her talent and personality. Victoria is living proof that talent and luck along with the right amount of hard work are the keys to success.
