The girls were invited by Bob Geldof to play at the Live 8 concerts but only if all 5 of them could agree to be there, this was confirmed by Bob Geldof at a press conference in May 2005, however in the end the girls were unable to perform as Melenie B has prior obligations in the US. The girls also hoped to play at the Concert for Dianna but were unable to because of timing problems and Emma's pregnancy at the time. In June 2007 the Spice Girls announded an eleven date world tour titled "The Return of the Spice Girls" after months of speculation. The tour is due to start in Vancouver on December 2 2007. The tour was designed to promote the release of a greatest hits album that is due to be released in November. Also Bob Smeaton was drafted in to oversee the creation of a documentary that would chronicle the tour, allowing fans to see the girls backstage and see what going on tour is really like. At an interview with Geri she said "You are going to get to know what is behind the stories that you've heard, it's going to be the most honest story you've ever heard, you're going to get to see the dark side of the Spice Girls, the gritty side, the tears". The Spice Girls were once a household name, much to the dismay of parents around the globe. The five-girl British pop group formed in 1994 and stopped recording in 2000 following the mid-tour departure of Geri Halliwell. In those six short years, they managed to grab the attention (and the money) of fans in all corners of the world. The group made stars of all five members, though only Victoria Beckham has consistently remained in the spotlight since the group’s breakup. Interestingly, she remained famous for her personal life even through the utter failure of her solo music career. After the group broke up, the girls all pursued solo careers, but none of them enjoyed the success they’d experienced as a group. When they announced plans for a reunion tour in 2007, people couldn’t help but wonder if the Spice Girls still had the drive and the influence that they’d had a decade earlier. They may have been able to get over the bickering that caused the group’s demise, but there didn’t seem to be much interest from a reunion tour from their former fans. Maybe the Girls had waited too long to cash in on their remaining celebrity status. After their first few performances, the reviews are mixed. There is a consistent theme, though: Victoria Beckham seems to do more posing and looking glamorous on stage than singing. She is widely criticized for having more style than substance, but there is no denying that she is a large part of the reason that people are flocking to the reunion tour concerts. Love her or hate her, Victoria Beckham knows how to draw a crowd.
