The first time Victoria Adams went to see her future husband in a live football match was in 1997, when he was a frontline player for Manchester United. They started dating after that; David, that year’s PFA Young Player of the Year, and already a football celebrity despite his humble origins, had risen to become the nation’s sporting darling. He proposed to her in January 1998 in a hotel in Cheshunt, England. They married on American Independence Day in 1999 in Luttrellstown Castle in Ireland. Predictably, this was one of the most famous and star-filled marriages that the celebrity-crazy British media could feast on. OK! Magazine was given exclusive rights to cover the ceremony, and was the only media group permitted to photograph them; despite this, some photographers did manage to sneak in, and some of the next day’s newspapers had a photo of the couple seated on golden thrones. The clamour for the wedding was understandable; it had cost an estimated half-a-million pounds! Following this, they moved in with their first son, Brooklyn, to their newly purchased home in Hertfordshire, near London, an ultra-posh residential complex they had bought for an impressive £ 2.5 million. This residence was termed the Beckingham Palace; and is built on a sprawling 17 acres. They had another couple of sons by early 2005; also adding to their acquisitions was another posh home in Beverly Hills, a villa estimated at $22 million. This house was bought after it was announced that David would be playing for LA Galaxy for a fee of $250 million.
